The Watchman's Trumpet

Ezekiel 33: 1-8

Prophecy Advisory Corner - Trends and Tactics
What's happening, where is it leading, and what can be done about it. Luke 21:34-36

"God does nothing without first revealing these things in advance through His servants the Prophets." (to warn of the dangers to come - Amos 3:7) This scripture declares that God has foretold what will come.

Prov. 27:12 - "A prudent man foresees the evil, and hides himself from it; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it." God encourages foresight and preparation. Both of these require information which one must then personally process.

2 Peter 1:20,21: "No prophecy of scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God." The events are prophecied by God, through the prophets; but our choice of preparation is not.

This function is, in the Old Testament, know as the ministry of The Watchman. (Ezekiel 33)

Daniel 11: 33: "Those who have insight among the people will give understanding to the many." and Daniel 12:10 - "None of the wicked will understand, but those who have insight will understand."

Natural Gas Begins to Flow Into Israel

Posted on Sunday, 28 April 2013. Posted in April 2013

JERUSALEM - Israel moved closer to its goal of energy independence on Sunday as natural gas from a large offshore field began flowing into the country, a harbinger of important change that will benefit the country strategically and economically, officials said. “We are taking an important step toward energy independence,” Prime Minister Benjamin said in a statement after the natural gas started flowing Saturday from the Tamar reservoir in the Mediterranean Sea ( about 56 miles west of Haifa) to a terminal in the Israeli port of Ashdod, a journey that officials said would take 24 hours.

Their natural gas could supply 50-80% of Israel's needs over the next 10 years.

Problem:
The natural gas flowing into Israel will be great for their economy in providing jobs, making them more energy independent and Netanyahu states that they will tax the energy profits up to 60 80%, which will allow some of that extra money to be used for a fund devoted to education and the security of Israel. Right now Israel gets a large portion of their natural gas from Egypt and other energy resources from other countries, so to become more energy independent will mean a loss of money for those countries as well as a loss of control. In addition, Lebanon is starting to dispute the offshore field site claiming it's in their territory.

Impact:
#1 - Israel becomes more independent.  Israel continues to be a stumbling block to all nations around the world, and in particular to those in the Middle East; it always has been and always will be, and their presence in the Middle East is not welcome by most.  Ultimately, Israel's radical neighbors wish to "push Israel" into the sea, but until that day comes (which it will not) ... controlling them is the next best thing. One major way Israel can be controlled is through various sanctions, that include withholding much needed basic resources such as energy.  If Israel becomes more energy independent, that is one less thing they can be controlled by.

#2 - Loss of income.  Even in good times, countries like Egypt and Sadi Arabia can make a fair amount of money off of Israel by supplying them with natural gas.  If they no longer need the imports, those countries lose that money.

#3 - New reasons for terrorist groups and nations to want Israel's destruction.  Lebanon is already claiming that the offshore field site is on their territory, so that will no doubt be an issue of dispute. But there is talk of additional resource sites (natural gas and oil) that lie beneath Israel and many surrounding nations would like to have control of that.

All these have the potential to make Israel more independent and therefore increase the friction already present in the Middle East.

Need:
The U.S. will also have to pay more attention to the Middle East, as fighting will increase over natural gas resources, and groups like the Muslim Brotherhood out of Egypt, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and those backing them in Syria and Iran may feel pressure to move against Israel sooner rather than later. We also need to brush up on our prophesy awareness and be reminded that people will be coming against Israel to "take a spoil" at the latter days, and have speculated that the spoil may be not only the technology, land, and obvious advancements Israel has already made, but a far greater spoil in the form of oil (underneath the Dead Sea supposedly) and now what looks like a huge natural gas resource (possibly the "oil of Asher"?).  Are we taking the news seriously?  Do we watch what's going around us and view it through the lens of Scripture?  If so, how are we changing our lives to be personally prepared for difficult times, and to be a better witness as the world grows darker.

Action Point:
Be aware of growing hostility towards Israel, and be prepared to learn how to give an answer as to why you support Israel to those who ask (future article?).  Watch for our government to try to get involved in Israel's use or control of the natural gas, in the effort to maintain their influence in the Middle East (both over Israel and her neighbors).  We have a great opportunity to show the love of Christ to our Jewish friends right here in Bucks County (approx 45,000), and close the gap of misunderstanding, help gather support for our Jewish friends in Israel, and ultimately help introduce them to their Messiah.

"Gate to Hell" Discovered in Antichrist's Neighborhood

Posted on Sunday, 28 April 2013. Posted in April 2013

Joel Richardson makes case for Gog/Magog coming from modern-day Turkey

A significant recent archeological discovery in western Turkey may hold a prophetic hint as to the nation from which the Antichrist will someday burst forth onto the world scene.

According to a recent report by Fox News, archeologists have uncovered the ancient “gate to hell.” Not literally, of course, but rather they’ve discovered an ancient pagan temple known as “Pluto’s Gate,” the cave that was believed to be the portal to Hades, in Greco-Roman mythology.

According to the Greek geographer Strabo, the cave emitted a thick vapor that would kill any who came into contact with it. According to Francesco D’Andria, the archeologist who discovered the gate, “We could see the cave’s lethal properties during the excavation. Several birds died as they tried to get close to the warm opening, instantly killed by the carbon dioxide fumes.”

Some students of prophecy have noted the similarity of the gate to hell to the “Abyss” as described in the book of Revelation:

“When [the angel] opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss. And out of the smoke locusts came down on the earth and were given power like that of scorpions.” (Revelation 9:2-3)

What is more interesting about this find as it relates to biblical prophecy is the fact that the gate was discovered in modern-day Pamukkale, Turkey, known in ancient times as Hierapolis. According to the first-century historian known as Pliny the Elder, Hierapolis was also known as “Magog.”

In fact, it was specifically this ancient Turkish-Magog connection that informed the understanding of a wide range of Jewish and Christian theologians concerning the region from which the armies of Gog and Magog would descend into the land of Israel.

Gog and Magog, according to the biblical prophet Ezekiel, are armies of the final antagonists of the Jewish people, who would invade the land of Israel just prior to the return of Jesus. While many prophecy teachers today hold to the idea that the Battle of Gog of Magog is a preliminary and distinct battle from the final Battle of Armageddon, this belief is actually a relatively new minority view within church history. Consider the following partial survey of theologians, both Christian and Jewish, who have long looked for the Antichristian armies of Gog of Magog to come from the land of Turkey:

Hippolytus of Rome (170–235), an early Christian theologian, in his Chronicon, connected Magog with the Galatians in Asia Minor, or modern-day Turkey.

Moses Ben Maimonides (aka Rambam) (1135–1204), the revered Jewish sage, in Hichot Terumot, identified Magog as being on the border of Syria and modern-day Turkey.

Nicholas of Lyra (1270–1349), a Hebrew scholar and renowned biblical exegete, believed that Gog was another title of the Antichrist. Lyra also affirmed that the religion of the “Turks,” a term used to refer to Muslims in general, was the religion of the Antichrist.

Martin Luther (1483–1546), understood Gog to be a reference to the Turks, whom God had sent as a scourge to chastise Christians.

Sir Walter Raleigh (1554–1618), in his History of the World, also placed Magog in Asia Minor, or modern-day Turkey:

“Yet it is not to be denied, that the Scythians in old times coming out of the northeast, wasted the better part of Asia the Less, and possessed Coelesyria, where they built both Scythopolis and Hierapolis, which the Syrians call Magog. And that to this Magog Ezekiel had reference, it is very plain; for this city Hierapolis, or Magog, standeth due north from Judea, according to the words of Ezekiel, that from the north quarters those nations should come.”

John Wesley (1703–1755), in his Explanatory Notes on Ezekiel 38 and 39, identified the hoards of Gog and Magog with “the Antichristian forces” who would come from the region of modern day Turkey.

Jonathan Edwards (1703–1758), one of American history’s most renowned theologians, also viewed modern-day Turkey as the nation from which the coming Gog Magog invasion would come forth.

John Nelson Darby (1800–1882), the British-Irish evangelist and a father of modern Dispensationalism and Futurism, in his Synopsis of the Books of the Bible, views Gog as the final Antichristian forces God will bring against Israel:

“Gog is the end of all the dealings of God with respect to Israel, and that God brings up this haughty power in order to manifest on earth, by a final judgment, His dealings with Israel and with the Gentiles, and to plant His blessing, His sanctuary, and His glory in the midst of Israel.”

C.I. Scofield (1843–1921), author of the Scofield Reference Bible, viewed the oracle of Gog of Magog in Ezekiel 38 and 39 as speaking of the Battle of Armageddon. Scofield, spoke of Ezekiel’s oracle thusly:

“[T]hat destruction should fall at the climax of the last mad attempt to exterminate the remnant of Israel in Jerusalem. The whole prophecy belongs to the yet future ‘day of Jehovah’; Isaiah 2:10-22; Revelation 19:11-21 and to the Battle of Armageddon (Revelation 16:14).”

Charles Lee Feinberg (1909–1995), a prominent Messianic Jewish expositor in his commentary on Ezekiel, states, “The armies of chapter 38-39 would appear to be included in the universal confederacies seen in Zechariah 12 and 14.”

Charles Ryrie, in his Ryrie Study Bible, views Gog and his hordes as one and the same with the Antichrist and his armies.

Dave Hunt, (just deceased) apologist, author and radio commentator, identifies the Gog of Magog Battle with other Antichristic prophecies and views it as a reference to the ultimate battle of Armageddon.

Many other prominent Christian theologians could be cited. If all of these theologians are correct, and Antichrist/Gog does come forth from the modern nation of Turkey, then it would certainly seem appropriate that Turkey is the home to the mythological location of the ancient gateway to hell.

SCENARIO:
It is becoming increasingly apparent that modern day Turkey plays a major role in the End Times, Last Days prophecies.

PROBLEM:
Turkey is about 98% Islamic, which would then point to a Moslem dominated End Times, Last Days scenario.

IMPACT:
If accurate, then this means that the Ezekiel 38 passage refers to Turkey "and it's hordes", rather than to Russia "and its hordes". Not only are Christ's Letters to the 7 Churches in Revelation chapters 2 and 3 all located in what is today's Turkey, but the expression "Gog of Magog" as it appears in Ezekiel 38 and in the post-millennial Rev. 20:8 apparently may refer to modern Turkey, as has been expounded above.

NEED:
Turkey had been warming itself toward the West, by seeking membership into the European Union (EU). The response of the EU to Turkey's advances has been to straight-arm Turkey as being 'not welcome'. The EU may be falling apart as a result of increasing financial chaos (Portugal, Ireland, Greece, Spain, and Cypress). This will push a Turkish led alliance into religious, military and political prominence in the region.

ACTION POINT:
We need to be alert regarding events in this area. Between Turkey's being pushed more into the Eastern Islamic rather than the Western bloc alliances, a jihad may be in the making, especially with the rise of the Islamic Brotherhood with a simultaneous fall of Europe (Humpty Dumpty). Watch for Turkey's clout to rise and to be strongly felt.

The Most Dangerous "Everyday" Threat to Your Privacy

Posted on Monday, 24 December 2012. Posted in December 2012

By Dr. David Eifrig, editor, Retirement Millionaire

SITUATION:
Three powerful forces have come together to dismantle the privacy of U.S. citizens…

First, government programs and regulations have formed the foundation of a massive tracking grid for all individuals. It has passed laws that give it sweeping "snooping" authority… It can now legally peer deeper into our daily lives than ever before.

Second, corporations collect huge amounts of our personal data to aid in marketing. The government can also force them to hand over customer records. In essence, banks, Internet service providers, airlines, car-rental agencies, cell-phone companies, and more have become proxy agents of the government's domestic intelligence apparatus.

Third, we live in a hyper-connected technological age… Smartphones, "cloud" computing, and credit cards have made it easier than ever to rob someone's resources… even his or her identity. This provides unprecedented opportunity for crooks to use your data against you.

This "new" America is a dangerous place. But there are simple steps you can take to protect yourself and your family. I'll share several with you today…

PROBLEM:
In a recent Wired article, one of the magazine's senior writers described how a hacker "dissolved" his online data:

In the space of one hour, my entire digital life was destroyed. First my Google account was taken over, then deleted. Next my Twitter account was compromised, and used as a platform to broadcast racist and homophobic messages. And worst of all, my AppleID account was broken into, and my hackers used it to remotely erase all of the data on my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook.

IMPACT:
Among the casualties in this "digital massacre" was every digital photo he had of his newborn daughter's first year of life.

The hacker exploited a weakness in Apple's security measures.

NEED:
But as the writer discovered, he could have prevented the worst of the damage…

The No. 1 way people's accounts are hacked has nothing to do with the actual password. It has everything to do with the password "recovery tools." These are systems e-mail providers and online stores have in place to help you if you've forgotten your password.

It turns out, every day, folks are providing hackers an easy way to exploit these recovery tools… They're signing credit-card receipts.

Credit card receipts "X out" all but the last four digits of your credit card number. You may think this provides a strong degree of security. Think again. In Apple's case, the recovery tools require the last four digits of the credit card linked to the account and the account holder's billing address.

Addresses are easily attainable via public record searches. Combine this with the last four digits of a credit card and voila, you have taken over access to someone's AppleID. And it's not just Apple that works like this… any number of corporations have similar programs.

ACTION POINTS:
But there is a solution…

From now on, whenever you use your credit card, always black out the last four digits on your receipt. Do this on the business copy as well as your own. If anyone hassles you, explain you have a legal right to do so. The digital transaction has already occurred… you are just keeping your personal data private.

Another major weakness in password "recovery tools" is the "security questions." These are often mundane questions like "What town were you born in?" or "What is your mother's maiden name?"

A simple search of public records and social networking sites (like Facebook) should yield these answers. At the very least, it will give a hacker a short list from which to deduce the correct answers.

Do NOT supply answers to these easily identifiable questions.
First, NEVER "daisy chain" your passwords. This means do NOT use the same password for every account you own. A compromise of one means a compromise of all.

Also, NEVER select "remember me" or "keep me signed in" on your e-mail website. (This allows others who use the same computer to access your e-mail without needing a password at all.)

And if it's offered, ALWAYS use "two-factor" authentication. For example, in order to log in, you might need your password plus a code sent to an alternate e-mail or mobile device that is associated with your account.

All these steps may take a little extra time and effort. But think about it this way… Let's say you own a rare, jeweled necklace. Would you leave this out on a table in your front yard, just so others could admire its beauty? Or would you take steps to keep it safe?

In the modern age, your personal information is more valuable than exquisite jewelry. And the strategies I showed you today are a few easy ways to keep it safe. You should put them into practice immediately.

If you're given the option to choose your own recovery question, make it a tough one. Make it nonsensical. Make it something that only youwould know. And if you have no choice but to use the stock questions provided, give false answers.

For example, if the question asks for your mother's maiden name, make up a name like "MacSmithowitz." Keep the answers written down on paper (never in digital form), in a secure location that only you can access.

Finally, the biggest "recovery tool" weakness is your primary e-mail account. That's because on the Internet, all "roads" lead to your e-mail address. It's the nexus of your online environment.

A hacker with access to your e-mail can immediately gain access to your other accounts by resetting their passwords. (The confirmation e-mails for these are sent to your primary account, which he now has control over.)

He can also change the password and shut you out from it… peruse financial data and gain partial account numbers, like the last four digits of your credit card and Social Security numbers… rummage through all your private data, including photos, videos, and more… gain access to your cloud-based files and devices… and delete things of value to you.

This is exactly what happened to the Wired writer.

7 Hours in Israel on 11/15/2012

Posted on Tuesday, 20 November 2012. Posted in November 2012

Situation: Rising attacks from the south and the killing of Ahmed Jabari (Internal Israeli News)
Ahmed Jabari (the head of Hamas' military wing) was killed early Wednesday, November 14th in an Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip. Once his death was confirmed IDF emergency services have been put on high alert in the case of a reprisal.  The Air Force launched multiple strikes against terrorist targets as a part of a new "hard line" approach to Hamas attacks on Israel's population centers in the south.  Some analysts say Israel is close to launching something similar to Operation Cast Lead back in 2009.

Resource: Emergency Volunteer Project

Problem:
Each day brings new terror to Israel, which in turn has heightened military alerts and caused the IDF troops to begin to call up their reserves and deploy them throughout their land. Each day brings a whole new set of decisions to be made as to how to respond to these attacks with or without the support of America, which in turn brings increased global frustration and more fear into the hearts of Israelis.  We in the United States, for the most part, cannot imagine what they are facing on a daily basis.  However, now more than at most times, the US is tangled up in problems of our own, such as the Bengazi investigation, re-staffing the White House, the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and trying to keep us from flying off the fiscal cliff. What does this mean?  We hesitate to stand with Israel in good times let alone when problems are brewing, but it appears imminent that Israel will begin engaging in some type of military excursion; whether that's internally to stop the missiles coming out of Gaza or internationally with countries like Iran and Syria.  To help us understand how different a day in the life of Israel is from our own, I've included some on-going reporting, from Israel, about how "Wednesday" went for them.

Wednesday, November 14, 2012:   (What was happening in my last 7 hours? - Here's what Israel was doing)

5:15PM: Word received that Commander in Chief of the Hamas Military Wing, Muhammed Jabari  was killed by IDF. At the same time dozens of Hamas' long range rockets & missiles were being destroyed. IDF reserve troops called up and deployed south for a Gaza ground attack. All schools within 40 km of the Gaza border were being notified that they will be shut down today (Thursday November 15th, 2012). Israel expects Hamas to retaliate (6 missiles have already been launched within half hour of Jabari's death). All out war against Israel is possible with the aid of Hezbollah in the north and El Qaida backed rebels in Syria.

6:00PM: Emergency Volunteer Project opened up their situation room (EVP is an Israeli based project that works with US emergency rescue personnel). Requests have been made to El Al Airlines asking for reduced tickets prices for American Support workers and room to bring equipment.

7:00PM: Volunteers from Israeli fire fighters and medical professionals are being put on alert.

7:57PM: 10 long range rockets landed in Beer Sheba - no casualties. All residents of the south have been instructed to stay in shelters or fortified rooms until further notice.

8:30PM: Ministry of Defense:  "We are at the start of the operation, not the end"

8:50PM: Rockets fired on Dimona - no casualties

8:55PM: Barzili Hospital evacuates patients to other hospital in the area to ones in secure locations.

9:11PM: Sapir Academy and other boarding schools are evacuated and students sent home.

9:29PM: GRAD missiles fired on Ashdod - no casualties

9:53PM: Another Salvo of missiles found on Beer Sheba - casualties

10:00PM: The Cabinet orders the IDF and Shabak to continue to press the enemy until the terrorists are stopped.

10:52PM: Another salvo of missile fired at Ashkelon and Beer Sheba - no casualties

11:02PM Missiles fired on Sderot - no casualties

11:23PM More missiles fired on Ashdod - no casualties

12:16AM: More missiles target Beer Sheba

12:30AM: EVP (Emergency Volunteer Program) is reporting and open 24/7

Impact:
Impact for Israel will be costly financially, politically (internally and globally), militarily, medically (increased chance of injury and death due to a much larger "kill zone" surrounding well populated cites around Gaza, and better made rocket and missile technology and power), and spiritually as Satan moves Israel's enemies against her with greater numbers and weapons of mass destruction, and no doubt will try and widen the gap of misunderstanding between Jew and Christian - confusing our politics and government  as being synonymous with Christianity.

Need:
Most certainly prayer. Please pray for Body of Christ to stay educated about what's really going on in the world and consider supporting missionaries and organizations that provide both practical aid and relief, as well as bringing the truth of the Gospel to a nation who has not yet recognized her Savior.

Action Point:
Get into the Word daily.  Learn what God has to say about Israel and those who support her and those who don't.  Be an advocate of the truth.  Evaluate your own lives as the world continues to bring us trial after trial and we cannot give help and hope to others if we haven't gotten it for ourselves.  Pray now about how you and your family may want to support Israel more specifically should war break out.
